"honesty without compassion is cruelty"

"I was just telling the truth!" is probably the most common excuse I hear from people masquerading carelessness as honesty. We all use the truth, whether it's for advice, to solve a problem, or to deliberately inflict pain.

I was having trouble with my painting, so I asked my friends for help. Friend A replied with laughter and a casual tone, criticizing that it "looked so bad" and the contrast made the painting unreadable.

Friend B explains that the lack dark darks made it hard to discern the subjects of the painting, but included that it was an easy fix that I didn't need to stress over and that they liked everything else.

In both scenarios, the truth was the same, just expressed in different ways. One offered compassion, while the other didn't.

There is no benefit in being negative, harsh, and critical. You will drive others away and hurt people around you. While it takes a little longer to be compassionate, you will become a person that people can rely on for honest, kind, and helpful advice.
