peers and thoughts

my peers, including my friends, are deep in politics. They talk about how polarized the United States is and how ignorant the other side must be, but the truth is that they are contributing to the very polarization they despise. It is so difficult to reach someone and convince them of a different worldview when you yourself don't see the argument for the other side. No, you do not need to switch your opinion, but it does not hurt to listen to what people with different opinions have to say and seriously reconsider your own. When everyone closes their eyes and shuts their mouth to what others say, there is absolutely no progress made.

They've also been arguing that our school district is going to pass a bill mandating bible study. I find it SO difficult to believe. It is in the 14th amendment's establishment clause: the government cannot take actions to establish a religion. The act of enforcing bible study is unconstitutional, and in court cases, the constitution always wins. Even in Engel V. Vitale, a Supreme Court Case on whether or not schools were allowed to enforce a mere nondenominational prayer, the school district lost. So when people argue that the bill on mandating christian bible study arises, it just seems ridiculous. I find that it has little to no reason.
